Mid-Winter Lunch 2015 – Monday 8 June 2015 – Sr. Barbara Henley RNDM

Congratulations to Pat Gruschow and Anna Upton who were awarded Life Membership to The Women’s Guild at our Midwinter luncheon on Monday 8 June at the Waikanae Hotel.

Pat Gruschow was born in Auckland but along the way moved to Waiwhetu and together with her husband Kevin raised 9 children 6 girls and 3 boys.  Her children describe her as a busy, caring, loving and capable mother. When asked why she is so good with figures the response was that she has the quality of being meticulous in carrying out anything she does….but someone suggested it was a skilled learned from keeping track of all those kids…

Pat and Kevin and their youngest daughter moved to Waikanae in 1986 and that is about when she joined the Guild.  One of her sons David is a priest.  He was ordained in Waiwhetu in 1985 and is currently working in Richmond and he thinks she is a wonderful Mother.

Anna Upton is honoured for her years of untiring enthusiasm, faithful commitment and generous service as secretary and hardworking member of the Guild Committee.

Anna is the epitome of the Energizer Bunny she just goes and goes and goes…she is involved in many community organisations and has many interests including Kapiti carers, Lions Club, Friend of the Art Gallery etc.  She has many hobbies including knitting, gardening, meeting people, doing the church flowers, minding grandchildren, making cards, attending to friends in need and she is finally at last becoming a computer nerd.  Her kindness and thoughtfulness is boundless. She has lived in this parish forever and has seen it grow and change over the years.

She has helped to grow this Guild into the vibrant group we are today.  She always has new ideas, fresh insights, good resources and plenty of time…which is the miracle of a busy women.

Anna and Pat we congratulate you and thank you for your service to our Guild over many, many years.

They we presented with Certificates and flowers by our President, Sharyn Pearce.
